Auckland plan up for public scrutiny

IMG_0325 Auckland Mayor Len Brown set aside his Rugby World Cup distractions recently to announce the start of public consultation on the draft Auckland Plan. The plan’s aim is simple – to make Auckland the world’s most liveable city by 2040. The timetable for Aucklanders to get involved in consultation extends to October 25, after which hearings will take place before the plan is finalised in December.

‘Cycling champion’ proposed for Auckland

Local Government 024 New data from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration shows that biking and walking have increased by 25 per cent since 2001.

Data from Auckland is showing even greater rates of growth. A group which lobbies and educates on the benefits of cycling, recently made a submission to Auckland Council on its Draft Plan.

Design race in Melbourne

The Australians are challenging themselves to make a substantial design difference at Melbourne’s Docklands at the end of this month. They are concentrating on establishing new public space projects in a very short space of time.

Auckland calls for heritage advisors

Preserving Auckland’s rapidly diminishing supply of heritage buildings has been a sore point with the city’s residents for some time. Council has formed an advisory panel and is calling for members.

International recognition for Te Rewa Rewa

Te Rewa Rewa Bridge opening 5 June  2010 3The stylish footbridge conceived by New Plymouth District Council and built locally has won plaudits from the International Bridge Conference. Open since June 5 last year it is also in the running for another international prize.
