Auckland Council is calling for expressions of interest for its new Heritage Advisory Panel, which will provide independent advice on heritage issues to council decision-makers.
The panel is the latest move by the council to protect the city’s built heritage, and joins the establishment a $10 million fund to buy at-risk heritage buildings for redevelopment and resale.
Chair of Auckland Council’s Parks, Recreation and Heritage Forum, Councillor Sandra Coney, will chair the new panel in the establishment phase.
“The panel will raise the profile of heritage in Auckland. It will also bring fresh eyes to heritage management in the council by highlighting heritage issues, advising on heritage policy and working with the successful Urban Design Panel.
“The Heritage Advisory Panel will be made up of both community representatives and leading professionals from across the region,” she says.
More information and application packs can be found on the Auckland Council website at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz (key words Heritage Advisory Panel) or by calling (09) 301 0101. Applications close on Sunday July 24, 2011.
