An AFP news report from Manila says environmental damage, shoddy urban planning, corruption and other man-made problems are magnifying the human cost of natural disasters almost every time they strike in Asia.

The French news agency quotes an official from the World Wildlife Fund who lists many of the human-induced factors which magnify the severity of the effects of natural disasters.
